Banning books, abolishing education, ignoring the past; this is how we go from reading about dystopian societies to living in them.
My naivety strikes again. Just like it did in 2016, and again in 2021, and over and over and over again, each time I somehow believe that the lying, misogynistic, racist, fascist will finally be seen for who he truly is by those who worship him as their white nationalist messiah. Alas, selfishness, greed, and above all, ignorance have truly polluted the American dream to its core, as even some of those who do see his evil choose to ignore it for the sake of power.
Ignorance truly is the greatest threat to our entire planet. Ignorance regarding human rights, climate change, and capitalism. The richest few continue to control the poorest many by pretending they have our lives in consideration, when in reality they sold their soul to the devil years ago and only care about the power that comes with wealth.
I'm trying to find a shred of hope. Hope for those who will have their rights stripped, even those who voted against their own best interest. Hope for the poor souls in Ukraine and Palestine who will face increased hardships under this new Nazi regime. I'm trying to find hope for my own country which is continuing to be a delayed reflection of our southern neighbour, as many people misunderstand the root of their problems, leading them to turn to "saviours" who actually seek to strip everything we hold dear.
It is not lost on me that the trilogy I'm writing right now would likely be attacked by many. This makes me all the more determined to share my stories with the world. Millions of people need to read stories like mine now more than ever. We will not sacrifice our morals and our willingness to love to the people who seek sameness and oppression above all else.
As do many others in our broken world, I need time to grieve, to process, to devise the best way to fight back. We will not go quietly.
