November has arrived, so my TeNoWriMo program at work is well underway.
My participants have the three "planning" meetings under their belts, and now it's time to put pen to paper (or, more often than not, fingers to keyboard). As I am in the process of writing Book 2 in my Archivists trilogy, I have elected not to write a 25,000-word novella alongside them. Instead, I'm going to aim to add 25,000 words to my WIP.
Strangely enough, this challenge comes at the perfect time. The first novel in my trilogy sits at just over 50,000 words. Plot-wise, I am in the middle of writing Book 2 with my current word count coming in just shy of 25,000 words. If I am able to add 25,000 more words before December arrives, my first draft will likely be near completion.
Will I reach this goal? Fingers crossed! I tend to write the most words when I'm sitting down to write "casually". Case in point, last week I wrote nearly 3,000 words one afternoon when I went to look at my novel with a "no pressure" attitude. This behaviour aligns with my habit of "reverse procrastination", aka getting loads done well before the pressure is on. Let's say that I will certainly do my best and I'll be sure to contribute a significant amount of words to my draft even if I don't meet my initial goal.
Have you attempted a writing challenge like the original NaNoWriMo before? Were you able to reach your word-count goal?
