Ok, this post isn't as mystical as it sounds, but I couldn't not use that title after it came to me! Also, happy fall equinox eve, everybody! (TW: cute picture of a bat)
Let me count the ways that autumn is the best time of year:
The colours - nothing beats the radiant shades of red, orange, yellow, and even brown that coat our trees
The weather - it's (usually), not too hot, and just cold enough to need a light jacket or a cozy sweater (as someone who is always hot, the perfection of this cannot be oversold)
The vibe* - pumpkins, and bats, and witches, oh my!
*This is where I must add the disclaimer that I am feral for Halloween. I'm also a massive hypocrite. I love Christmas, but when I see people putting up decorations before Remembrance Day, I get salty. But here I am getting hyped for Halloween every year in August.
Be it one of these reasons or something I'm overlooking altogether, fall is just so inspiring to me. After all, Alison's story begins on a chilly October evening in 2007. These 17 years later, Winnie's story is also taking off in the fall, but in a more literal sense.
I started formally writing Book 2 during the summer but put it on hold to finish my edits of Book 1 so that I could confidently send it off to my editor. Now that I'm querying Book 1, I'm back to continuing the Archivist's trilogy. At the time of writing this, I wrote close to 2,000 words yesterday and boy does it ever feel good. I'm telling myself to keep going, even while the form rejections start to roll in. In one way or another, the world will get the chance to read this story.
What season is your favourite? If it's not fall (first of all, what's wrong with you), what is it about the season that you love the most?
Fall is also your father’s birthday.
